Wireless Security

The old adage, “Where there’s a will there’s a way,” holds true in the world of wireless technologies. If a person has the will to break into your network, you can be sure he or she will try every way possible to do it. While the majority of attackers intend to cause harm to the network they are attacking, not all attackers have this malicious intent. Here is one secure category of attackers.

Being a network administrator to a large network and having to choose to have a large network within one of the businesses I would prefer a hacker to be trying to break into my network.  A hack is someone who breaks into a network security without the intent to do any type of harm.  Instead they are somewhat beneficial because they find flaws within the security portion of the network, which allows unwanted traffic to access the network. This would the beneficial towards the company because the hacker would find flaws within our security and report them to us so we can fix them.  The form of wireless security I would chose for the network at my business would have to access control.  This allows the company to have filters on their network that filters those who have access and who don’t have access to the network.  This can also filter who from those that have access to the network can access certain parts of the network.  One of the drawbacks of this type of security is that everyone who needs access to the network or certain parts of the network need to have pre-approved access to the network.  This means everyone must turn in their MAC address to the network department so they can approve the address from the network card.
