Mobile IP
Mobile IP is the ability to contain the same IP address when moving from one network and internet connection to another. There are a couple of advantages and disadvantages. One advantage would be that mobile IP would allow business workers and others to move from one facility to another to
attend conferences and meetings. While attending these meetings they would be able to connect to the other businesses network and Internet connection to obtain certain files from the Internet and network. This can be accomplished with many types of devices such as laptop computers, handheld PCs, pocket PCs, and other mobile devices.
Some disadvantages can be very severe depending on who is accessing the network of the business. Since so many devices can use a mobile IP there are many security threats that go with this. Allowing users to access a business’s network can provide access to certain financial information, personal information such as name, date of birth, address, and even social security numbers. This can lead to many problems for users who use the network daily. Some other security threats would be a user using a mobile IP to install very viruses and worms in the network which could destroy the network over time. The security threats is what is holding mobile IP back. Over time as technology advances I believe it may become more widely used. Mobile IP as an example of IP adaptation in the near future will provide service to mobile devices and increase portability.
