The triple constraints both in concept and practicality, are at the heart of design. Scope –of course is, what do we want, how good, how fast, and
at what cost/resource consumption- creates parameters for the design phase to draft (or be drafted), “within”. Cost –a concept that covers not only money, but also worker-hours, material resources, and sub-contracting costs. These are issues that when properly channeled and controlled, may become the backbone of both the design of system and the system itself. Timeline –an item of particular importance; scheduling is of paramount importance to the sequential harmony of any project. The greater the interdependency is between tasks, the more critical the issue of time actually is.
Project constraints: scope, cost, and timeline constitute major verifications of project delivery. Also, triple constraints determine project performance and success. Scope is the project goal’s efficiency, quality, and improvement. Stating the scope clearly helps better understand it which is crucial to all team members. Project cost is closely related to resource materials and funding, and its role is to convey anticipated outcome. The time constraint represents the assurance of deliverables in an expected time period.
To find out if a project is truly successful, it has to have been implemented for some time. For instance, a new network would need to be in place for at least a year to decide whether it is compatible with the needs of the company. A well thought plan is awesome on paper, and if one can get it completed on time and under budget, even better! However, not everything that sounds like a good idea is a good idea. Once the project is brought off of the paper, and is a physical device, it may not meet the company’s needs. To determine if a project is successful, it needs to meet the needs of the objectives. A successful project will be productive in regards to the subject matter that it covers. A successful project is determined if it is done in an orderly and timely manner with the desired outcome becoming a reality.
