Court rejects Microsoft’s appeal and prohibits Word sales-Will Word software continue to fight?

Microsoft has suffered another sensitive crush in the much-talked Word case. A federal appeals court has rejected the appeal by the software giant and upheld a previous decision that Microsoft is obliged to pay the Canadian company i4i compensation in excess of $ 240 million as compensation for damages due to patent infringement.

Recall last summer, i4i firm filed a lawsuit in District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, where they claimed that all existing versions of the text editor Word, a part of Microsoft Office, illegally used the technology of relevance to the customized markup language XML.

However, after Texas court proceedings court sided with the plaintiff and forbade Redmond Corporation to sell and import into the U.S. software products using the disputed technology. In addition, Microsoft was sentenced to pay compensation, which totaled $290 million.

Note, that when a new review of the received loudly publicized case was not taken into account even the fact that before the New Year, Microsoft released a special patch which will remove any proprietary i4i XML tagging features available in the previously sold copies of Word 2007. Also, the contested technology is not used in the beta version of the future redaction of Word 2010.
