Apple might start equipping its computers with AMD processors in the future

Since 2006, Apple uses only Intel processors on their computers. The transition to the new Intel-based computers enabled the company to upgrade the entire range of products – from laptops to servers.

Consequently, the performance of computers has increased, so did the opportunity to frequently update the hardware platform. Despite the fears of analysts, with Intel the viability of Apple and its sales has increased. But recently it became known that Apple might start cooperating with Intel’s main competitor – AMD. They already negotiate on the supply of AMD processors for notebooks and desktop Mac.

As stated on the site ixbt.com, Apple is mainly interested in the supply of upcoming AMD products, not yet implemented. They’re particularly interested in Fusion technology – with the CPU and GPU integrated in a single chip. The first products, this technology will be implemented on, are supposed to appear in 2011. This will be a 32 nm chip containing up to four cores and Phenom II graphics core with DirectX 11, codenamed Llano APU (Accelerated Processing Unit). The main direction of these products may be laptops and desktops of Apple mass segment – MacBook and Mac mini. But, having begun to use the AMD Fusion, Apple, most likely, will not refuse to use Intel processors. They will remain in the upper segment of the product – Apple MacBook Pro and iMac.
