Future Technology Predictions-Live to see!

The rapid spread and development of technology could be considered as the major driver of the decade. Recalling the 9/11 incident, it gained that much significance not just because of the many lives that were lost, or its economic impact in America, but mainly because of the widespread pictures of the tragedy in the worldwide web. It was made possible by the cheap digital technology. Another proof is the globalization of China, which they basically owe to undersea fabric optics and advanced computer programs that are capable of managing complex supply chains. Indeed, technology has made a huge contribution to both the global financial calamities and modern warfare.

All the recent happenings of this generation like various crisis in newspapers, the birth of social media, the global mourning of Michael Jackson’s death, and the sudden fame of Google were all made clearly possible by the revolution of Internet. The more exciting part of this is the idea that this is just the start.

Broadband, for instance, is just making its entrance and is only beginning to be pervasive in the developed world. Moore’s Law will continue to crush the prices of computation, communication, and even transmission and storage. Cheap sensors are also just about to be thrown on to everything. Yes, so much has changed already. But it does not end there, because as mentioned, this is just the start. There is so much more to come.

Given that scenario, I humble present my predictions for what is yet to come in 2020, based on the changes and development that took place in that past 10 years. This may not be a 100% accurate, but let’s name it food for thought. And there might be contradictions, which is also true in these times that we live in. Anyway, in these fast-paced times, destination point matters more than accuracy.

Nations

They will always be around, but they may not be able to own their national population, anymore, as much as they did. Al-Qaida was an early, insidious attempt to create an extra national political force, which in the end, failed. It can even be considered as an international crime, although it has the aim of changing government policies. Through social networking, more transnational political organizations emerged and evolved by 2020. Iran fell, and thus the United States would have to hide their military presence in many countries.

Sovereignty

Google’s simultaneous translation systems, pervasive cross-border mobile payment associations, and easily accessed public encryption put the national control of language, currency, and communication to its fail. Well, open societies strived to adapt to this reality of losing control, while the closed societies failed.

Privacy

Privacy is close to impossible with the advent of cameras located everywhere and the sophistication of data analysis. By this time, you would have to go to a museum to know what it meant. There are people, who seem to be good at heart, who chose to trade it away with hopes of better search results.

Work

Companies in general will have short lifespan. This has been true for some time, and became even truer as the pace of changes hastens. It’s just that only very few are capable of adapting to the ever changing needs of the market.

Wealth

From sensors, the discovery of “hidden databases” that come in sub-atomic heights, in the oceans, the human body, and universal societies, enables capitalists to have affluence of new patterns for organizations to develop, which resulted in the explosion of wealth and inspiration. It is actually through learning the former complexities of the natural world that makes the rate of change even faster.
