Positions differ according to duties and responsbilities of an IT professional. IT professionals are highly remunerated compared with other jobs. To succeed in this field, one should have IT-related certifications. Experience in the IT industry is also essential. Therefore, it makes good sense to gain a competitive edge by working whilst studying. Software Engineering would require one to possess a bachelors degree in computer science. Responsibilities would include coding, linking applications and functions, as well as identifying and correcting errors in program code. They make backups and ensure essential information is recoverable in a crisis. DBA’s also coordinate and implement security systems to protect company’s critical data. The scale of salary for a DBA ranges from $70 000 – $95 000 per annum. A Database Administrator usually possesses a bachelors degree in computer science as well as additional application certifications.<br />
A System Administrator would be involved in the designing, testing and evaluation of data communication systems such as Local Area Network (LAN). A System Administator would often carry out research and suggest network and hardware technologies which can change over time. System engineers would be required to be familiar with all new or upgraded technology in the market. They would be able to repair and maintain hardware components such as CPUs, monitors, keyboards, etc. Technical abilities for the installation of hardware and software are essential. System administrators would need to possess certifications in applicable applications. Their earning potential could be anything from $60 000 p.a.
A career in IT would depend on whether one would prefer to install a computr, design websites or develop software. For a more competitive edge in the IT industry, it would pay to obtain as many internationally recognised certifications as possible. Also working experience in an IT-related environment, even at a junior level, would be beneficial.
